Service Technician

Location: Columbus, MS
Reports to: Service Manager
Description: The Service Technician is a field hardware technician focused on the highest level of client satisfaction through billable client servicing of hardware warranty and maintenance issues and the timely delivery and installation of new products.
Requirements, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a high level of service to clients by attending to and resolving on-site service calls and efficiently repairing, installing, and maintaining equipment and conducting moves/adds/changes to hardware product.
- Conducts on-site upgrades, configurations and tests of client equipment.
- Enhances level of technical training and skill set through active development within chosen technical path / skill set. Maintains knowledge of new technologies and vendor offerings that are cost effective and optimize client satisfaction.
- Maintains appropriate records and documentation on service work performed and ensures timely communication to supervisor of service order status and potential issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Certifications: A+ (Required) and Hardware Vendor certifications are a plus (IBM, HP, Dell, etc).
- Education: Associate's Degree in the field of technology studies, or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Work Experience: Bench and/or on-site service technical experience - 2 years. Customer Interface experience - 2 years.
- Technical Skills: High level of technical proficiency in microcomputer product areas. Familiarity with large account environments and protocol. Working knowledge in major desktop operating systems (Windows 9X, Windows NT Workstation, and Windows NT Server)
Communication:
- 1. Demonstrates a clear and effective speaking manner for the purpose of explaining technical information to non-technical individuals. Strong presentations skills.
- 2. Demonstrates a clear and succinct writing style for the purpose of completing status and project documents.
- Other: valid Driver's License and acceptable motor vehicle record required for opportunities requiring business travel
Accountability:
Problem Solving Consults with manager some of the time with problem resolution. Problem solutions are moderate, requiring some amount of ingenuity. Incumbent is responsible for providing on-site technical field sales support through the installation of product, on a timely basis to meet client needs. Incumbent provides bench support and maintains a high level of training proficiency and current product knowledge. Incumbent maintains appropriate parts requirements and inventory levels for assigned client territory. Incumbent must complete accurate configuration and assembly of product.
Project Management: Ensures that service orders and client requests are completed in accordance to supervisory direction.
Position: Entails a moderate level of team-work. The work requires that other positions are involved in getting the work completed. Incumbent interacts extensively with clients to share information and to perform service work as requested by client. Incumbent interacts with vendors to learn product offering and specifications.
Working Conditions: General Business Office Environment
Physical Requirements:
- Required to load, lift, move and deliver product weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Position requires working in the following positions for extended periods of time: working overhead, climbing, bending, kneeling and stooping
Travel Requirements: Occasional overnight travel possible, depending upon business necessity.
