The Hoover school board this morning took the first step in implementing a sweeping secondary schools technology initiative, approving $1.3 million in bids for electrical wiring, projectors and screens.

J&K Electric was awarded an $829,300 wiring bid, which involves linking projectors to computers, DVD players and videocassette recorders and wiring for sound enhancement systems, said Gary McBay, director of school services.

Logista Solutions won a $505,638 contract to provide and install about 520 projectors and screens.
